Another thing that I have noticed in Thriller Openings is that they are nearly always speechless.
This makes the scene increasingly suspenseful.
The opening of a film shouldn't give away a lot as that will just ruin the film. And so, not using a dialogue is good.
In THE STEPFATHER there is no speech but rather sound effects. Not using speech helps to NOT state the obvious, the audience have to watch the film as they cannot hear what the character is saying and so concentrating on his actions ensures that they do not miss anything.
